The issue of whether to continue the current exception for marital rape that exists under the law in India that criminalizes rape is the subject of widespread debate and a case before the Delhi High Court.  In this article, author Aditi Tandon cites information provided by Aashish Gupta of r.i.c.e. showing that in the last 12 months of data collection by NFHS, 157 women out of 100,000 reported being raped by men other than their husbands and 6,590 out of 100,000 reported being raped by their husbands.  Read more...
